Its low carbon content (≤0.02%) significantly reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding and improves the intergranular corrosion resistance of welded joints. It is suitable for harsh environments such as chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical.
Typical applications of Hastelloy B-2 Pipe include pickling equipment, reactors, heat exchangers, and pipeline systems for conveying corrosive media. It has a wide operating temperature range (-200°C to +400°C), but it should be noted that its performance will be limited in oxidizing environments (such as nitric acid, Fe³⁺ or Cu²⁺ solutions). The material can be hardened by cold work to improve strength, but it needs to be combined with solution annealing (such as rapid cooling at 1120°C) to optimize corrosion resistance. During processing, contamination by impurities such as sulfur and lead must be avoided to prevent hot brittleness.
